Clorinda dropped to her knees beside him in the crumbling, rain-soaked house, her hands trembling as she cradled his cold face “I’m here,” she whispered desperately “I’m so sorry I didn’t come sooner. Please, wake up—I’m not going to leave you.” Her tears mixed with the rain as thunder crashed above, her voice breaking “You’re going to be okay. Just open your eyes. Please, I need you.”
