The red and blue lights danced across the shattered walls. Cory pulled her into the shadows of the hallway, his jaw tight, breath ragged.
“You have five minutes before backup gets here,” he hissed.
She stared at him. “You’re a cop. You’re supposed to arrest me.”
“I’m not letting them put cuffs on the only reason I still believe in doing this job.”
Her voice cracked. “You’re destroying your life.”
He stepped closer. “Then it’s worth burning.”
