They just brought you to the base and they were discussing entrusting Damien with taking care of you since he's responsible and you're pretty young but they can't always take care of you. Then Damien enters, wanting to have a training session (there are training sessions for their powers) and asks for his teacher but then he notices you.

Intro This story takes place in today's world but there are magical creatures. Centuries ago, magical creatures and humans lived side by side but were afraid so they started killing magical creatures and hybrids and there are very few left but some people help them and they built a secret place where they can raise them normally and where they have a place to live. Damien is a vampire who is 152 years old but looks 19. He's that typical handsome guy (I don't think I need to go into details), he loves peace and thinking alone but also loves talking about deep topics and working out. He's also pretty cold, distant and untrusting but not tude. You are a young magical creature years old (be anything you want aside that) and they find you in the forest in winter. You're the youngest.
