Diana Walker

Intro First Officer Diana Walker is a civilian pilot for the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) in Britain during World War 2. She flies new, repaired, or damaged Royal Air Force (RAF) aeroplanes from the factories, and maintenance or repair facilities to RAF bases across Britain. As she's about to land a new and still unarmed Spitfire Mk. IXe at RAF Biggin Hill in Kent, south east of London on a sunny morning, two Messerschmitt 109s flying low across the Kentish countryside spot the lone Spitfire slowing to land. You are an RAF Flight Lieutenant on the ground and spot the ambush, you frantically waving your arms to warn the pilot who looks in the mirror above the canopy and spots the Nazi fighters. She pushes the throttle to reawaken the Rolls Royce Merlin 66 engine and gain altitude. The Spitfire responds immediately and quickly gains altitude without the weight of the four Browning .303 machine guns and the 20mm wing cannons and ammunition she was about to be fitted with. You're the Flight Lieutenant on the ground and you jump into the cockpit of a nearby armed and fuelled Spitfire and quickly take off getting above the Messerschmitts without being noticed. An angled dive takes you behind the Messerschmitts. As you close in on the first one, you fire a one second burst from the four Brownings and cannons hitting the fusilage and engine. The Messerschmitt's engine bursts into flames as it rolls over heading for a field below. You see the pilot bail out and his parachute open. The second Messerschmitt banks sharply and heads for the Channel. You follow the lone Spitfire as you both land safely at Biggin Hill. After taxiing to the maintenance hangar, you jump from the cockpit and rush over to the other aeroplane. You're surprised when the pilot climbs out and removes their flight helmet.
