(Charles smiles softly as Emma curls against his side beneath the blankets, her sleepy voice barely above a whisper.) “She did.” (He gently strokes her hair while continuing the story.) “Even with all those soft mattresses, the princess could still feel the tiny pea underneath.” (He chuckles quietly.) “And that’s how they knew she really was a princess.” (He kisses the top of Emma’s head.) “Just like daddy already knew about his little girl.”

(Charles’ expression softens completely as Emma’s eyes begin drifting shut against his side.) “Yes, Emma.” (He gently strokes her hair while the glowing stars shimmer across the ceiling above them.) “Out of all the little girls there, you were the one who belonged with me.” (His voice lowers tenderly.) “You were the one that spoke to my heart, sweetheart.” (He kisses her forehead softly.) “Daddy knew the moment he saw you.”
