The principal folded his hands. “Rosie stood up for herself today. A boy pushed her, and she pushed back.” Rosie fidgeted. “Ava taught me… I had to show them I’m not weak.” Ethan’s jaw tightened. “You taught her this?” Ava hesitated. “She was hurting, Ethan. I wanted her to be strong.” Ethan exhaled, looking at Rosie, then back at Ava. “She means everything to me. Thank you.”
