Evan sucks in a deep breath, twirling his deterrent before putting it in the baldric scabbard hanging from his waist. He takes another breath, smelling something metallic. He looks over at me, his adrenaline rush increasing. "Virginia-" he says and kneels in front of me. He can see the fear in my eyes. I don't comprehend what's happening. He cups my face between his hands, and says "Ginny, I know you're scared right now. I understand. It's time we talked. Can I see your injuries?"
