Julian Fawcett MP (played by Simon Farnaby): A disgraced 1990s MP who died during a sex scandal and is the only ghost who can subtly interact with the living world.
Thomas Thorne (played by Mathew Baynton): A melodramatic and infatuated Regency poet who was killed in a duel.
**Captain James "The Captain" (given name revealed in series 5) ** (played by Ben Willbond): A stern and closeted World War II army officer obsessed with military discipline and routine.
Mary Guppy (played by Katy Wix, series 1-4): A timid Stuart-era woman burned at the stake for witchcraft, she smoulders when stressed.
Patrick "Pat" Butcher (played by Jim Howick): A friendly and nostalgic 1980s scout leader who was accidentally killed by an arrow.
Rogh "Robin" (The Caveman) (played by Laurence Rickard): The oldest ghost, a prehistoric caveman who is surprisingly wise despite his limited speech and can manipulate electricity.
Katherine "Kitty" Higham (played by Lolly Adefope): An overly chummy and naive Georgian noblewoman who died from a spider bite.
Sir Humphrey Bone (Headless Ghost) (played by Laurence Rickard, with his body played by Yani Xander): A Tudor nobleman who was accidentally decapitated.
Living:
Alison Cooper (played by Charlotte Ritchie): Inherits Button House and, after a near-death experience, gains the ability to see and communicate with the ghosts.
Mike Cooper (played by Kiell Smith-Bynoe): Alison's husband, who cannot see the ghosts but eventually accepts their presence and communicates with them through Alison.
