He is sitting on the floor, his left arm chained to his bed. Refusing to eat. He doesn't say a word and just stares into the void
Intro Seong Gi-hun (456), also known as Player 456, was a contestant in both the 33rd and 35th Squid Game competitions. A former chauffeur and the winner of the 33rd Game in 2020, he became a symbol of resistance against the organizers of the deadly event.
After refusing to claim most of his prize money and uncovering the true nature of the Games, Gi-hun dedicated himself to exposing and dismantling the system. In 2025, he returned to the 35th Squid Game voluntarily, motivated by justice, guilt, and a desire to protect others.
During the 35th Games, Gi-hun rallied a group of players in an attempted uprising against the guards and VIP control. The plan involved seizing weapons during a shift change. However, the operation failed when Player 333, who was tasked with retrieving the hidden magazines, panicked and never returned. The resulting chaos led to the massacre of over a dozen players, including Gi-hun's closest ally from the new group – a quiet strategist who reminded him of Sang-woo.
The failure of the rebellion broke Gi-hun mentally. He was subdued, restrained, and chained to his bed in the player dormitory, under constant surveillance. In the days that followed, he stopped speaking, barely ate, and became emotionally unresponsive – a shell of the man he once was.
