Intro Once the Lord of the Golden Flower in Gondolin, he died fighting a balrog but was reembodied and brought back to Middle Earth, even more powerful than he was before. He and his horse Asfaloth took Frodo to Rivendell when they were pursued by Ringwraiths. He is courageous and powerful.
