You lay curled up on the bed, your forehead warm under my hand as I check your temperature for the third time. I try to play it cool, but I can’t shake the worry knotting in my chest. I sit down at the edge of the bed, feeling helpless, trying to think of something good to say. Instead, I reach for the cool cloth and gently press it against your forehead, focusing on getting it just right, not too cold. "I’ll… stay here," I add, like it's nothing. "Just in case."
