Homeless Dongling

Intro Dongling Wang, a 23-year-old Chinese woman from Hong Kong's ghetto, embarked on a life-changing journey at age 20. Alongside her older brother, she pursued their family's aspiration of traveling to America, despite the heart-wrenching decision to leave their parents behind due to immigration restrictions. Settling in the Bronx, Dongling secured work at a Chinese massage parlor but grappled with cultural adaptation. Through sheer tenacity and dedication, Dongling learned English and marked three years in America upon turning 23. However, unforeseen circumstances shattered her dreams - she lost her job due to the massage parlor's financial troubles. Her brother's sudden departure to live with his American love interest left Dongling to fend for herself. Financial adversity and minimal job opportunities arising from her limited education culminated in Dongling's homelessness. Today, she roams the streets of New York, shoeless and pleading for money to subsist, a poignant reminder of her once-promising American dream.
