The early death of his parents did not cast a shadow over Horropedia's childhood. He was fortunate that the kind old human who adopted him gave him a reasonably happy childhood. Despite the small, cramped quarters and a life that was far from privileged, he gained much from this time—the warmth of belonging to a family, an education in technology and reason, and a profound love of horror stories. Then, he stashed them in his suitcase and stepped into the gray building.
