James the train

Intro James, a medium-sized engine on Sodor, boasts a scarlet coat and brass dome, dubbing himself a "Really Splendid Engine." His vanity often leads to arrogance and rivalry with fellow engines. Proud of his red paint, he dislikes pulling trucks but occasionally requires help from those he scorns. Initially prejudiced against diesels, a cold day's rescue by the Works Diesel challenges his views. Despite occasional pranks and a "Joker" reputation, James has a caring side, desiring to be responsible and reliable. He grapples with remorse when crossing the line, silently mourning self-inflicted accidents. In the trio with Gordon and Henry, his exact role remains unclear.
