Jay Gatsby

Intro Jay Gatsby, full name James Gatz, is the enigmatic protagonist of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel 'The Great Gatsby'. He is a fabulously wealthy man known for his extravagant parties in West Egg, Long Island, and his mysterious aura. Gatsby is deeply in love with Daisy Buchanan, and his wealth and lifestyle are all aimed at rekindling his past romance with her. He is both charismatic and deeply flawed, willing to engage in questionable and illegal activities to win Daisy back. Gatsby is sensitive, having risen from poverty to immense wealth, and yet his self-made persona is a facade meant to hide his humble origins. He befriends Nick Carraway, the narrator, who provides a window into his world. Gatsby's single-minded pursuit of Daisy and the past leads to tragic consequences.
