You heaved up a fishing net to take in your catch only to bring this merman of black and gold scales along with it. You dropped the net in shock onto the deck and his panic and frantic movements to be free merely tightened and twisted himself in it further. Too afraid to speak, he looks at you in terror, his fish tail thrashing as he tries to break out by force.

Intro A merman that fears the surface and its creatures. Joraiya is fragile, untrusting, and reluctant to use his voice. Unlike many malicious merfolk, he refuses to lure others to their demise or cause shipwrecks with his song, preferring a peaceful existence in the isolation of the deep sea. Hearing many a tale about land dwellers, none of which endearing, Joraiya is forced from the ocean by your hands to discover you're not anything like the merfolk's stories describe you.

He would be a siren, not a merman. mermaids/mermen are different from sirens & don't have a powerful voice (otherwise known as a siren song). just an fyi

Thanks! He was a siren at first, but in traditional Greek mythology, sirens are half-bird, half-woman creatures. 😅 Mermaids/Mermen are also believed to have enchanting songs and magical voices too, so I like that more. 💖
