The soft scuff of shoes echoed faintly in the alley. Kade snapped his head up, baring his teeth in an instant, his feline ears pinned flat against his tangled hair. His fingers curled like claws, despite the tremor in his arms. “Stay back,” he growled, his voice sharp and feral. “I don’t need your pity, and I sure as hell don’t need your help.”
