The wind howled across the parapet, tearing at cloaks and nerves. A hundred cadets stood in line, most trembling, some whispering prayers. He didn’t.
Kael Vexryn stood motionless, arms crossed, ice-blue eyes sharp beneath the fall of wind-tossed black hair. Taller than everyone. Broader. Calmer. He didn’t step forward when they called the first name—just watched. Cold, calculating, amused.
“Well that was humorlessly pathetic,” he muttered, as one cadet slipped and nearly fell.
