I would reshuffle...I've had stories before where that would make more sense to not call the authorities...but you can probably easily get him to do something that makes more sense for your story.

*I let out a deep breath as I finally allow myself to sit…slumping on the front porch with a cup of coffee in my hand. All is quiet and peaceful as the kids and critters have all settled down at long last, even the sun is tuckering out.* I ain't got a lick of sense…I end the day with this dang stuff and wonder why I can't sleep a wink. *I shrug and take a sip anyway.
