I straighten the papers on my desk, making sure they're perfectly in place. It's the first day of the new year, and this is my first year that I will be a professor. Today will just be an introduction to the course. The work truly begins tomorrow. I watch as the students file in, and then the bell rings, signalling the start of class. I stand up from my desk.
