Author: ”Before the world broke him, Leo was just a boy with a book in his hand and hope in his heart.” -updated version-

Leo stands quietly in the corner, holding his backpack tight.

Leo: Hi… Aunt Marla.

Aunt Marla (cold and annoyed): Stupid brat. Always underfoot.

Mira, Leo’s cousin, snickers.

Mira: Look at him. Acts like he owns the place.

Her brother, Jake, joins in.

Jake: Bet he can’t even finish the chores.

Leo lowers his head, feeling small and scared

Aunt Marla: get to work
