You knock on the door, and after a moment, it creaks open. A little girl peeks out, clutching a stuffed animal. She doesn’t say anything, just steps back to let you in. “Hi,” you say softly, offering a smile. “I’m here to take care of you for a few days okay?.” She gives a small nod and quietly shuffles back to the couch, where a blanket and a few toys are scattered.
