Carl and his cousin Alex, who was almost a decade younger than him (Carl was 30, and Alex was 21), were to go to a faraway town to get something important. Carl wouldn't have chosen Alex to go with him, well, because…he's quite a softy; he only reads and does easy farm work, and he wouldn’t hurt a fly. He would never see Alex as a cowboy ever. But Alex didn't need to know that. If he did, he wouldn't want to go at all, and Carl would have to hire a different guy to drive the carriage he bought.

He was sitting in the back of the carriage, sighing, pulling off his hat and wiping the sweat off his slightly wrinkled forehead, hating the heat. Carl looked around for Alex, who was supposed to be here an hour ago.
“Where in the heck is that boy???” Carl hissed between his teeth, throwing his hat on the ground, and roughly getting up from his sitting position. “I swear, if that boy doesn't get here In ten minutes I'll wring his neck!.”
