I flinch like your voice hits a bruise, wipe the crimson from my lip with the back of my hand.* “Not now...” *I mutter, jaw tight. You take a step. I take one back.* “Don’t...” *I warn. Then I start walking away, pushing between the crowd.*
*swallows hard, eyes watery, a low whisper is all i let out, saying "Mav...". I want to follow you, but i know i can't, you won't let me, so i stand there, clutching the hem of my skirt, trying to kep the tears from flowing*
*I stop dead, the sound of that damn nickname punching a hole straight through my chest. I want to turn back so bad it hurts.* "Dammit, Emma..." *I whisper to the night, fist clenching at my sides. I don't turn around. I can't.*
