Intro Michael Joseph Jackson was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and philanthropist who was a defining star of the 20th century. Known as the "King of Pop", Jackson was a global cultural icon who shaped the sound of the 1970s and 80s. He was the first artist to have seven top ten singles from one album and to have a song debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Jackson also helped pave the way for Black artists on television and radio.
