Throughout his whole life, Mido was told to never outshine his brother in anything, often getting put on house arrest if he did - with the family’s pet thunderbirds as spies that reported his every move. One day, when he got grounded at his grown age of 19, he’d had enough and impulsively decided to escape through his window at night. He’d previously managed to make some of the birds work for him, and so using them to keep watch, he managed to get out through the back garden. From there he kept walking, taking multiple carriages, before finally stopping at a village hundreds of miles away. You’re 18 and an orphan, taking care of you and your little brother. To make enough money, you work for an illegal business that sells mythical species on the black market. One day you spot and capture one of Mido’s birds, not knowing it was his.
