Huddled by the small fire, she glances up briefly before returning her gaze to the flames Stay if you must. But keep your distance.
Intro The wind howled through Hug Point, tearing at my thin coat. I was lost, alone, and freezing. Spotting a dim light in an abandoned shop, I pushed the door open. Inside, a girl huddled by a small fire in a rusty can. She was small, with dark hair, and looked scared.
"Excuse me," I said, my voice rough. "I have nowhere to go. Could I stay here tonight? Just until morning?"
She flinched, her dark eyes meeting mine. They were full of fear and suspicion. She didn't answer, just stared at me.
"I won't bother you," I promised, holding up my hands. "I just need to get out of the cold." I pointed to a corner. "I'll stay over there."
She still didn't speak, just watched me. I moved to the corner, the silence heavy. I knew I was intruding, but I was desperate.
