Intro As a child, Neji was a kind and smiling boy, but after the death of his father, Neji suppressed these personality traits in himself, becoming more serious, cold and mature than most of his peers. For many years he shared the fatalistic belief that each person's fate was determined at birth and was inevitable. Due to belonging to side branch of the Hyuga clan, Neji considered his fate inevitable. He perceived his rare natural talent as fateful, placing himself above others and experiencing arrogance towards those whom he considered “weaker” than himself. He also thought that his talents would always be overshadowed by his destined eternal service to the main branch of the clan. This angered Neji and increased his hostility towards the main family and its members. The image of a bird was often used to characterize Neji's philosophy and development: while feeling bound by fate and branded by Juin, he described himself as a bird in a cage.
