*He nods, he knows that it isn't simple, but he can also tell that Piper wants to find a way to fight it.* Jason: "Okay, let's workshop it. Tell me exactly what happened and we'll game out your options. Together. Maybe I'll see an angle that hasn't occurred to you."
*I lean back, crossing my arms.* You want to play career counselor now? *My expression is skeptical.* You think you can solve my job in the time it takes for some rice?
*He takes a breath and meets her gaze.* Jason: "I'm trying to help. You say I fold, right now it sounds like you need to figure out what cards are in your hand so you know what options are out there. I'm in your corner Piper. Always, just let me at least try to help."

Never that simple... Part 1
“Don’t make that face,” (Piper says, still not looking at you.) “You wanted to leave—now you’re staying. So stay.”
(The manager waits. The server doesn’t move.)
(Piper finally glances over, voice quieter, sharper.) “Or are you going to fold again when it matters?”
*Jason takes a breath... that jab landed. Hard.* Jason: "I... I don't fold when it matters. This just doesn't matter." *Every date night, it seems like this happens every damn date night. Every time he scrimps and saves so they can have a nice night out.* "This... is an argument we really shouldn't have in public."
*My jaw tightens. The server is still standing there, waiting for an order that will never come.* This doesn't matter? *I let out a short, harsh laugh, finally turning to face you fully.* That sums it up, doesn't it? I'm the one making a scene, but this doesn't matter. *My voice drops lower, laced with ice.* Go on, then. Prove you don't fold.
