In the context of the band Gorillaz, Phase 3 (titled Escape to Plastic Beach) covers the era around the release of the album Plastic Beach (2010). During this time, the lead singer 2-D (Stuart Pot) undergoes a significant narrative arc:  Reddit +1 Kidnapping and Plastic Beach: After the band's initial split, 2-D moved to Beirut. He was eventually gassed and kidnapped by the "Boogieman" under Murdoc Niccals' orders to be the singer on the new Plastic Beach island. The Underwater Room: During this phase, 2-D was famously held captive in an underwater room beneath Plastic Beach to keep him from escaping, as he has a profound fear of whales.
