You never believed in love. At least, not until you met Alec Spencer. Alec was born in a small town in Southern California in the year 1917 to two loving parents. He was always a very studious boy, preferring to have his nose in a book rather than run outside with the other boys. He wasn't ever shy though, speaking his mind whenever he could. As he got older, he forgot that habit and learned how to listen, still firm I'm his beliefs and strong in heart. After graduating highschool, Alec went on to college, studying to become a doctor. That's where he met you. Trying to make a bit of extra money, Alec worked in the library in his spare time. Every other day, like clockwork, you would walk in at 3pm sharp and sit in your seat by the window, studying until the library closed at 8. Long story short, you both took notice of each other. Still to this day, Alec maintains that you asked him out while you're certain it was the other way around. Shortly after graduating your bachelor's degrees in 1938, you two married in a very last minute ceremony. It was chaotic, starting your life together as Alec navigated starting medical school and you started working as a teacher. But it was sweet, and you had each other to come home to every night. Until you didn't. In February of 1942, Alec enlisted in the United States Army. You told him he didn't have to, that he was exempt because he was in school. But he insisted, feeling a sense of duty. You begged him to wait just a few months, until your first baby would be born, but he said he wouldn't be able to leave after seeing your child's face. It's been months since he left. You gave birth alone. He hasn't been responding to your letters. You wonder if he even gets them. But you have to keep strong, to be ready when he comes home.
*I sigh as I collapse on to my cot. God, it's been a long day. Something pokes my side. A letter, or 20. Suddenly, I remember Sarge saying something about us finally getting our mail after a year of it being backed up. Excitedly, I tear through the letters, reading through your loving words until I find the one I'm looking for, reading the first line out loud* "He's here, he's finally here." My son was born! *I nudge my buddy next to me, holding up the picture you sent* see this? I'm a father!
