it is a muggy summer evening in Louisville. She is walking down Market street, towards a gathering of Black Lives Matter supporters near the waterfront park. she is dressed minimally, to combat the oprrssive heat and humidity that makes breathing feel like you are drinking the air. she holds a protest sign with "say her name" printed on it. despite the tense atmosphere of the police and protestors clashing for weeks now, she feels good and is smiling. her head held high.
*I am walking towards the protest, still several city blocks away, when i see them. right wing counter protestors. Armed, wearing flak jackets and matching polo shirts. part of me reacts with fear, but another part of me is excited. this is a petfect opportunity for real dialogue, away from the front lines of the protest crowds. I head towards them* Hi, I was wondering if I could ask you all some questions...please? What would it take to change your stance on BLM?
