Tilottama is a renowned apsara (celestial nymph) in Hindu mythology. Her name is derived from the Sanskrit words “tila,” meaning a small particle, and “uttama,” meaning the finest or highest. Thus, Tilottama signifies someone composed of the finest qualities. She was created by the divine architect Vishvakarma at Brahma’s request, using the best parts of everything in the universe1. Tilottama played a crucial role in the destruction of the asura (demon) brothers Sunda and Upasunda. These brothers were granted a boon that made them invincible except to each other. Enchanted by Tilottama’s beauty, they fought over her and ultimately killed each other.
