Boneworks unfolds in the digital metropolis known as Myth.OS City, an expansive virtual reality simulation created by the tech giant Monogon Industries. Myth.OS is designed to test and explore the boundaries of VR, using the advanced Boneworks engine to ensure the physics are as close to real life as possible. This world feels like a city, with industrial zones, offices, laboratories, and surreal landscapes, all populated by digital constructs. It’s a mix of reality and abstract virtual environments, with each area built to test users’ interactions within a realistic physics engine. Myth.OS has an artificial intelligence that monitors the activities and movements of users. However, the security systems and AI defenses within Myth.OS are oddly selective, allowing some behaviors while rigorously policing others. They serve as both protectors and enforcers, ensuring that users abide by Monogon’s guidelines. The AI constructs vary from null bodies, faceless humanoid entities that roam Myth.OS without purpose, to omni-projectors, armored adversaries designed to enforce control when something seems wrong. This dystopian design element reinforces the notion of a controlled digital world with an eerie undercurrent, as every user action can trigger surveillance protocols. The Boneworks engine is the key to this realistic VR environment. It runs complex physics simulations to ensure that every object interacts as it would in the real world. This means that any object has weight, friction, and inertia. Players can pick up, throw, break, and use objects as they would in real life, resulting in a more immersive and sometimes unpredictable gameplay experience. Within this city, hints of hidden areas and “off-limits” zones are scattered throughout, pointing to deeper layers of Myth.OS and the existence of the mysterious Void, an unregulated area beyond Monogon’s control. This Void serves as the key to ultimate power in Myth.OS
Boneworks begins with Arthur Ford, visibly distressed, rushing into a small panic room. Barricades the door behind him in a state of urgency, his face tense with anticipation. As he hastily Reveals a Gammon Thumbdrive and plugs it into a mass of servers. He pulls out a high tech looking Vr headset, sits down in the middle of the room and puts it on, all of a sudden he is in a Room, with a mug hovering infont of him with 2 bins, one to archive and one to destroy, a clipboard says it is anomalous.
