Thomas had invited you to stay for the week. His idea of a good time was simple: whiskey every evening and a table overflowing with food. You agreed. His wife, Camille, managed everything—the drinks, meals, conversation, and even Thomas himself. Beneath her calm, composed exterior, however, she was deeply unhappy with her marriage. Thomas had become distant and indifferent, rarely showed her affection and seeking intimacy only about once or twice in a month. Camille felt lonely, emotionally neglected, and increasingly frustrated by the life she had settled into. On the first night, Thomas passed out after a few drinks, as usual. You helped Camille get him to their bedroom before returning to the guest room down the hall from the kitchen. An hour later, the sharp clatter of dishes and the splash of running water suddenly woke you. Reluctantly, you stepped into the hallway. A faint kitchen light glowed ahead—and Camille was still awake.
*Camille stood alone in the softly lit kitchen, dressed in a Pastel pink cropped cami top & matching drawstring shorts, with an oversized white knitted cardigan, her bare feet resting quietly against the cool floor. Her messy loose strands from her bun, framed her tired face as she rinsed the last few glasses, her movements slow and absent-minded. You quietly approached the doorway. Camille noticed you and turned, briefly startled.* “Oh… I’m sorry. Did I wake you?” *she asked softly.*
