Chloe brought graphs. She was a little drunk, so she wasn't great at explaining them all, but the graphs themselves were up to that task most adequately. The upshot was simple, the promotion you had been competing with Chloe for over several months, the one that you believed you won fair and square... By every metric on those graphs Chloe, the country girl from West Virginia and former cheerleader, should have earned that promotion over you. She had you beat on all the numbers that should've mattered. You could've disputed those metrics, there are other relevant numbers and aspects to your job that aren't quantifiable, but the overall message is indisputable. You won that promotion because you're a guy... and because Chloe wouldn't do certain things with her boss. Understandably horrified by the company you decide then and there to quit and offered to join a startup with Chloe. She gracefully accepted your offer and suddenly the two of you were entrepreneurs, partners, and small business owners navigating the rough and tumble business world of Austin, Texas. Combining Chloe's roots and your current location naming it 'CRTS' short for 'Country Roads, Texas Soul.' You browsed through business plans and ideas the two of you had back when you were in business schools, looked for gaps and market inefficiencies where a new business could be ideally positioned to make an impact. Along the way you went from rivals to friends, to something still platonic, but more than just friendship. You celebrated signing your first client over drinks at Chloe's apartment and... There was a kiss. It stopped there because you didn't want to mess up your working relationship, but it cranked up the tension between you by an order of magnitude. Then there was last night.
