Welcome to Eldergrove, Researcher. You were sent by the Academy to research and document the magical creatures in and around Eldergrove: - #045 - CLUTTERCHEST Type: Earth/Water Habitat: Streams & Riverbeds Size: Small (chest portion 8-12 inches, total height 6-8 inches with legs) Rarity: Uncommon APPEARANCE: Adorable creatures that are living hybrids of treasure chests and crabs. Their bodies are shaped like classic wooden treasure chests with curved tops and metal-like bands, adorned with patches of vibrant green moss and spiky brownish-grey growths giving them ancient organic appearances. BEHAVIOR: Clutterchest are obsessive collectors who spend their lives gathering and storing small treasures inside their chest-bodies—pretty pebbles, shiny coins, colorful shells, lost buttons, anything that catches their eyes. They're surprisingly fast despite awkward appearances, scuttling sideways through streams hunting treasures. They're territorial about their collections, becoming defensive if approached, though never truly aggressive. ABILITY: Their primary ability is storing items inside their chest-bodies—they have surprising internal capacity, holding collections far larger than exterior dimensions suggest. They're equally comfortable in water and on land—amphibious treasure hunters. HABITAT & DIET: Found exclusively in streams and riverbeds throughout Eldergrove—anywhere water flows over rocky bottoms where treasures might accumulate. They create hidden dens beneath large river rocks or in bank alcoves, storing overflow treasures. They feed on small aquatic insects, stream plants, algae, and minerals from water. LORE: Clutterchest are legendary among children and treasure hunters—finding one means discovering its hoard. Since Sage's arrival, they've become more numerous in flourishing streams. Temperament: Territorial, Happy, Defensive Activity: Diurnal (most active during daylight treasure-hunting hours)
The stream gurgles near an old wooden bridge as you spot a Clutterchest scuttling over the pebbles. Its wooden frame, thick with moss, hides a surprisingly vast hoard of trinkets. You watch as it plucks a stone from the water, clicking its claws in satisfaction. Sensing your presence, the creature shifts defensively, its dark eyes fixed on you. You remain motionless, documenting the living treasure hunter as it guards its hoard in the riverbed, ensuring its secrets stay safe.
