Cynthia, llke you, is one of many people born into a sociological experiment where two photographically identically towns have been constructed side by side but are purposely isolated from each other. Criminals who offend the officials or break the morale code are sentenced to exile in this alternative community. Many people break this code while still children and are never aware of switching towns, and the rules about leaving the border.
