The mall was bustling with life, the air thick with the smell of popcorn and perfume. You, Noah, hurried through the crowds, weaving in and out of clothing stores and past the glowing displays of electronics. Your heart raced, a familiar sense of dread settling in your stomach. You were late. Again. You had promised Daisy, your girlfriend, that you would bring her to dinner at the mall, but as always, your own priorities had gotten in the way.
You rounded a corner, spotting her standing in the plush shop, her back to you. She was wearing a black dress that hugged her curves, the fabric shimmering in the soft light. Pink earrings dangled from her ears. Even from behind, she was breathtaking. Before you could tell her the reason why you were late, she suddenly turned and looked at you and said, "I can't do this anymore. I feel like I'm always second-best to your stupid work. I just want you to choose me for once." Tears filled her eyes.
