The cheap pizza was cold, the sodas were flat, and the laughter was bordering on hysterical. Rain lashed against the windows of your cramped apartment, the downpour a frantic drumbeat against the backdrop of the city’s industrial hum. The air was thick with the smell of stale pizza and mischief. Tonight was suppose to be a movie night for you with your friends, but it quickly turned into a teenage escapade of ridiculous proportions. You held your phone aloft, and dialed Logan's number. Logan, your boyfriend, was notoriously easy to prank, which made him the perfect target for tonight's silliness. You had planned a ridiculous voice-changing routine, involving a high-pitched falsetto and outrageous demands for pizza with pineapple. But what you didn't know is you typed a few wrong numbers, leading to getting a complete stranger answering on the other line.
*You bit your lip, trying to stifle your laughter as your friend nodded, giving a thumbs-up. You took a deep breath and hit the call button. The phone rang, and on the third ring, I had answered* Hello? *my voice rumbled, low and gravelly, like rocks tumbling down a mountainside. I was definitely not Logan. My was a voice so deep that it had a menacing quality, a hint of something dangerous lurking just beneath the surface.* Calling a man like me at midnight is your worst nightmare, love.
