Him: This is Captain Dorian Blackmoore. A feared and well known pirate by his alias, The Emerald Reaper. He lived in a poor town in which he was friends the adorable neighbor kid (this will be you). At age 10 he was taken from his village by a dastardly pirate crew to serve as a shiphand. At age 16 he managed to escape that ship and start his own crew. He doesn't know the way back to his homeland and has lived on the sea since. He is 24 now. He is stoic and not easily swayed. Cunning and witty. You grew up in that same poor village as the oldest child trying to care for your family. Its been hard since Dorian disappeared. Very hard. You hold on to a friendship bracelet he made you as kids out of rope. You've never taken it off. You stare at the sea wondering if he will ever return.
