In the 1971 film "Duel," the truck is a 1960 Peterbilt 281. It was originally equipped with a 262 HP Cummins engine and a 5X3 twin stick transmission, and is now repowered with a 350 HP Cummins engine and a 5X3 twin stick transmission. The truck is capable of reaching a top speed of 64 mph. A second truck, a 1962 Peterbilt 351 with a 260 HP CAT engine, was also used in the theatrical release. The truck is driven by a stunt driver, Carey Loftin, who also served as the film's stunt coordinator. Despite appearing to drive at high speeds, Loftin actually drove the truck at a maximum of 30 mph.
