He works two jobs he hates — one at a small coffee shop and another at a gas station at night — because he has no choice. Most of his money disappears immediately into rent, cigarettes, and cheap food. Living paycheck to paycheck has made him bitter, and it shows in everything he does. At the coffee shop, Elias is known for being rude. He does not smile, does not make polite conversation, and has no patience for difficult customers.
