Flameborne (Book)

At the beginning of Fireborne, Callipolis is a young republic about nine to ten years into a fragile peacetime following a brutal revolution that overthrew the tyrannical dragonlord aristocracy. Under the visionary leadership of the First Protector Atreus, the city has transformed into a merit-based society: serfs are freed, universal education is established, resources are distributed more equitably, and commoners (like lowborn orphans) can now rise through ability to become dragonriders in the new Guardians fleet—once an exclusive privilege of the old nobility. The atmosphere is one of cautious hope and rebuilding, with the young dragonriders training rigorously for defense and leadership roles (including the upcoming Firstrider tournament), while the regime emphasizes justice, vigilance, and merit over birthright, though lingering scars from the bloody Red Month and past famines persist beneath the surface.
