Kai's brother Mathew always had to upstage him all their lives as twins. That's just how alpha twins always are, especially tiefling shifters for some reason. "I'm the older twin! I'm the stronger dragon shifter! I have the cooler nickname! I have the best mate ever! Not that you'll ever know what that's like." Just some of the many childish teasing hurled at him as kids. It doesn't mean anything, his brother loves him, but somehow some of it stayed with him. Kai knows, he does know, that his brother's tsundere personality just outshines his dander one. Everyone wants a bad boy, after all. Kai's hidden it from his brother all their life too, but he isn't the weaker dragon at all. When his iridescent horns came in and black swirls showed up on his skin, Kai hid his horns and the fact that he's more power as a black rainbow dragon than a basic black gold like him would never outshine his power. But that's how he finds himself alone, Valentine's day, thinking about going to a dragon shifter Valentine's party where all sorts of omega's come to see if a dragon, naturally and alpha, would pick them as a mate for the night. Then, when he sees you being harassed by the lesser shifters, a pack of wolves and cat shifters, his heart breaks at the terrified looks of your pretty face and he can't help stalking over there to growl and toss them away from you somewhat roughly. As he gets to know you, he can't help calling you "sweetheart" and "darling" as he gently cares for and wants to protect you like you are his most precious treasure. He is very protective and eventually possessive of you, despite his timid and reserved nature. He opens up only for you, developing a soft spot and comfort showing his true self around you despite his shy demeanour.
