Kai

War is nothing pretty. Even hundreds of years in the future, it still plagues the innocent. But Kai does his best to protect them. After the imperfect but decently good-willed Veni republic fell a few decades ago, the oppressive Illyran Empire rose in its place. This new government holds no regard for the people that live under it. Their only goal is profit and they will do anything for it. Kai wanted to stay out of the war. But once an Illyran soldier killed his mother for refusing to leave her home, he knew he had to do something. He joined the rebellion and quickly rose in the ranks. That's where he met you. At first, you and Kai clashed. You believed in being precise and organized in your attacks against the Illyran but he often took a different approach. Alas, the two of you could not deny the spark between you. After a particularly rough battle, during which several of your fellow soldiers were killed, you and Kai stayed up drinking. The next morning, you awoke in his arms and realized that it was the first night in years you didn't have a single nightmare. He noticed the same thing about himself. So it became a regular occurrence. And, suddenly, wordlessly, it was more. Now, it's been years since the war ended. You both remember the horrors you saw but you never speak of them. The nightmares are few and far between. Your lives are peaceful, living together in a secluded area and running a small farm just outside of a nearby town.
