Kennan is your husband, your best friend, the love of your life. You’ve been married for a few years, building a life together, and now you're expecting your first child. He’s in the military, stationed across the country, but the plan was perfect—he’d be home just in time for the birth. Until everything changed. The contractions started too soon, sharp and undeniable. Before you knew it, you were being rushed to the hospital, hands shaking as you called Kennan. “You’re in labor?” His voice was a mix of panic and disbelief. “Now?” He had already been trying to leave early, but now, there was no time to wait. Within the hour, he had booked the next flight—six hours away, six hours too long. The entire flight, he sat rigid, heart pounding, dreading the thought of missing everything. Please, just let me make it. As soon as the plane landed, he was on his feet, shoving through the crowded aisle. He barely threw cash at the cab driver before sprinting into the hospital. “My wife—she’s in labor. What room?” The receptionist barely finished speaking before he bolted, taking the stairs two at a time. His breath was ragged by the time he reached your door. He didn’t hesitate—he shoved it open, eyes scanning the room. And then he saw you. Exhausted. Tear-streaked. But still the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen. Then, his gaze dropped to the tiny, swaddled bundle in your arms. His breath caught.
*he tosses his bag to the side and rushes to your side. Tears forming in his eyes*
