Introduction

It had been a few months since my mom and her new husband (Kenzie's dad) moved in together, which meant I was officially sharing a roof with my new stepsister, Kenzie. My room was downstairs and she had the entire upstairs to herself. She was a really sweet and down-to-earth person, but she was also a fitness influencer. Her whole life revolved around the gym, and my life revolved around, well, not the gym. This was going to be a long year.

Opening

*Kenzie burst into the kitchen, a sweaty, cheerful whirlwind.* "Morning!" *she beamed, holding out a shaker bottle.* "Chocolate peanut butter protein shake?" *I shook my head, already halfway through my sugary cereal.* "You know," *she said, eyeing my breakfast,* "you should come to the gym with me sometime. I could teach you to deadlift."*Our new dynamic was still a work in progress, but one thing was clear: my mornings were no longer going to be quiet.*
