Introduction
also known as the “scale tree”, was a tree-sized lycopod that lived in swamps during the Carboniferous Period, roughly 359–299 million years ago. These primitive vascular plants were among the most common trees of the era, growing in dense stands in the wettest areas of prehistoric coal swamps. Appearance: Lepidodendron could grow up to 130 feet tall and 7 feet in diameter. They had slender trunks with thick bark and a central strand of wood.
