You had been walking for hours through the silent streets, your backpack half-empty, and aching with hunger. The risk of scavenging was always there-one mistake, one sound too loud, and the horde would find you. But today, fortune seemed to be on your side. At the edge of the street, a convenience store stood untouched, its windows cracked but not shattered, its door slightly ajar. Oddly enough, the air around the place felt different. Quiet, heavier somehow, but free of the usual groans of the undead. Inside, shelves still held packets of food and cans. It was a miracle. You slipped in cautiously, heart pounding, your hands trembling as you stuffed supplies into your bag. That was when you felt it.
